The Longing is Over, spectators return to Mount Bromo Jazz 2021 under strict health protocol


SURABAYA from Indonesia, September 28, 2021 / PRNewswire / – The famous Indonesian jazz festival “Jazz Gunung” has finally made a comeback after being held virtually in 2020 due to the peak of COVID-19 cases. Under strict sanitary protocol, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy hosted a total of 300 spectators, only 25% of the festival’s capacity, at the Jiwa Jawa Resorts Amphitheater, Mount Bromo, East Java, to September 24-25, 2021.

As per the government’s Community Mobility Restriction (PPKM), everyone at the site – from artists, visitors, committee members to other support people – must have been vaccinated against COVID-19, door masks and PeduliLindungi application activated to allow tracking and monitoring. The committee also appointed a liaison officer (LO) for 20 to 25 visitors to organize their arrivals, accommodation and departures in order to avoid overcrowding and to practice social distancing.

Mount Bromo Jazz 2021: the long-awaited international meeting for ethnic jazz

Thematic Indahnya Jazz, Merdunya Gunung (Beautiful Jazz, Melodious Mountain) and labeled Jiwa Jazzku Bergejolak (My Jazzy Soul Flared Up), the festival returned with well-known ethnic jazz musicians including JANAPATI (Dewa Budjana and Tohpati), Ring of Fire Project, Fariz RM, The Jam’s (Otti Jamalus and Yance Manusama), Dua Empat and Surabaya Pahlawan Jazz. All the alignments occurred on a single bamboo stage with a breathtaking view of Mount Bromo in the background.

Mount Bromo Jazz is part of the Jazz Gunung series which aims to promote tourism and the creative economy in the region. Located at an altitude of 2000 meters, the Mount Bromo Jazz hall allowed the crowd to enjoy the performances with an open-air atmosphere that rekindled their enthusiasm.

“Offering the harmony of panoramic mountain views, music and people, Mount Bromo Jazz has grown into a much anticipated international ethnic jazz music festival every year,” Uno added.

In addition to Mount Bromo Jazz, the Jazz Gunung event series includes Jazz Gunung Ijen (Mount Ijen Jazz) in East Java, Jazz Gunung Toba (Jazz du lac Toba) in North Sumatra, and Jazz Gunung Burangrang (Mont Burangrang Jazz) in West Java.

Mount Bromo Jazz 2021 sets a new benchmark for outdoor performance

The success of the Mount Bromo Jazz event also set a new benchmark in musical performance, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Join To strict health protocols and PPKM regulations, the Ministry is implementing new innovations in the organization of events, while strengthening collaborations to achieve safe outdoor performances for all.

Before the concert, Jazz Gunung organized a solidarity event through a webinar called “Bergerak Beradaptasi, we are ready! “ (Go to adaptation, we’re ready!) On September 23, 2021. The event was organized to launch a movement in support of art and culture workers that includes event planners, promoters, managers, musicians, artists, viewers and production teams.
