The Savannah Stopover Music Festival announced today that the festival will return on March 11-12, 2022 and take place on the grounds of the Georgia State Railroad Museum. In 2020, Stopover celebrated its 10th anniversary as one of the country’s top music discovery festivals.
Previously held at music clubs and venues in downtown Savannah, this is the first time Stopover will take place at a unique new venue. Historic, industrial and avant-garde, the grounds of the Railroad Museum, which spans 33 acres and includes multiple indoor and outdoor spaces, provide a perfect backdrop for the festival’s Southern Gothic soul, and an easy stroll, by bike or by car to the historic district of the city.
The new site will include several stages, a VIP lounge, a food court and a vendor market.
Stopover also announced that Montreal’s group Athens, one of the internationally renowned bands to emerge from the Elephant 6 collective in the 90s, will headline the festival on Friday March 11. Their latest self-produced double album, “I Feel Safe With You, Trash,” was released in March of this year. The group, known for their artistic, exuberant and lively performances, performed at Savannah Stopover in 2018. The full festival lineup, which will include additional headliners and more than 35 groups, will be announced in November.
Please see next week’s Connect Savannah print edition for more information on the announcement.
