Neville’s warning to the Ricketts family
Gary Neville has issued a warning to the Ricketts family after Chelsea fans protested their ownership of the club.
“I have to say if I was the Ricketts family and I received this type of hostility coming in…stay away, walk away. The fans are important. If you are the government.
“I don’t know if it’s the government that’s in charge of the bid, or Bruce Buck, or the organization nominated by Roman Abramovich – but I would say we need to make sure the biggest clubs in the country.
“We’ve seen here with the Glazer family, Mike Ashley in Newcastle, it drains life. Not just out of the club, but out of town and everyone is watching. It can’t happen in football clubs.
“It’s not just about the best deals, it’s about what the fans want. The Ricketts family are trying to reach out to Chelsea fans, but they have historical issues that need to be addressed and explained. Right now they aren’t being explained very well.
“In this current light, with what happened with the Super League, Big Picture, Derby, Bury, what happened with all these problems with Roman Abramovich and the links with Putin [something Abramovich has always denied]we have to start bringing back some kind of moral compass to determine who owns a football club.”
