Kelowna Musician Leila Neverland Shares New Perspective on Art in Latest Album – Okanagan


Known for her big hair and even bigger voice, Kelowna’s Leila Neverland shares her latest album Small big storm with the world.

The five-track album shares her journey through the pandemic that led her to evolve as an artist.

“Creativity for me has always come very naturally and I can sit in a piano and just close my eyes and just play a weird nothingness until I find something that makes me feel good or that travels well. , then like okay, I’m going to go with that, I’m going to riff on that and a song will come out of it, ”Neverland said.

The album demonstrates his versatility as an artist, drawing inspiration from multiple genres incorporating scat, light melodies and buxom vocals to create his unique blend of music.

“[The album] is definitely a demonstration of my breadth and the different genres that I bring to my music, there is a song that is just a vocal loop, ”Neverland said.

The fourth song on the album, Unconditional, shares part of her soul and personal growth through grief.

“I had learned so much about myself, my strengths, who I am and my worth. But, this song is about being unconditional with yourself and therefore it expresses love and expresses sadness, but it also expresses how we have a choice about what we perceive from our experiences, ”Neverland said.
