MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Jaguars gave up three runs late in the sixth inning to lose the lead and ultimately fall to Butler in today’s Blues City Classic final, 5-4. Graduate student Hailey-Pop led the IUPUI softball team batting 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

IUPUI came first on the board with a run in the top of the first inning. Victoria Sivert and Rachel Gregoire the two chose to place the runners in the first and second places. Pop picked the midfielder to tag Sivert and give the Jags the first lead, 1-0.

With a two-run homer from Monique Hoosen late in the second inning, the Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead. That lead didn’t last long as the Jags scored three runs in the top of the third inning. After IUPUI loaded the bases, Pop picked the shortstop to score Kendal Calvert and collect his second RBI of the game. With the bases still loaded, Gregory scored on a defensive choice hit by Haas Abbey and Jaylin Calvert was hit by pitching to allow Maicey Bedrick to score and extend the Jags lead to 4-2.

The Jaguars held the lead until the bottom of the sixth period when Butler scored three runs on three hits to regain the 5-4 lead.

Pop had two RBIs on two hits, Kendal Calvert went 2 for 4 with a run while Sivert and Gregory also recorded hits that day. Isabelle Waggner suffered its first loss of the season on the mound, allowing three runs (one unearned) on six hits in 4.2 innings of relief. She whipped up three batters in the loss.
