Shogakukan announced Thursday that Shinichi ishizuka‘s Blue giant manga inspires an animated film that will open in 2022. Ishizuka drew the illustration below to celebrate the announcement.
Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the 10 volumes of Ishizuka Blue giant manga series in five omnibus volumes. The company released the first omnibus volume on July 27. Seven seas describes the story:
Miyamoto Dai, an avid basketball student, changes his life the first time he attends a jazz concert. The incredible music strikes a chord with him and he immediately decides to devote himself to the saxophone. He has no skills, no formal training, and no idea what he is up against, but his obsession drives him to play this instrument day in and day out. Ishizuka (Gaku – Minna no Yama) launched the manga in Big comic in May 2013 and completed it in August 2016. The manga was nominated for the eighth Manga Taisho Awards in 2015, as well as the ninth prize in 2016. The manga won the Manga Division Grand Prize of the 20th Japan Media Arts Festival. Awards in 2017.
Ishizuka then launched Blue giant Supreme manga sequel in Big comic in September 2016, and finished it in April 2020. The manga had 10 volumes.
Ishizuka has launched a new manga sequel titled Blue giant Explorer in Big comic May 2020.
